Joe Robert McCord, 73, of Chillicothe died at his residence on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.
Born on July 2, 1938, in La Harpe to Glen and Marguerite (Bushmire) McCord, he married Barbara Sue Whitten on Oct. 26, 1958. She died March 3, 2002.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Judy (Thomas) Sapp; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and one grandchild.
Surviving are his son, Jimm (Jason) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Kelly Jo (Larry) Welch of Chillicothe; two brothers, Jack McCord of Morton and Jerry (Pam) McCord of Peoria; one sister, June (Paul) Smock of East Peoria; four grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Alleyne Shumate of Fountain Green.
After working 35 years at International Paper, he retired. He also worked for Caterpillar, Federal Warehouse, Hiram Walker, Bemis Bag and as a police officer for the Elmwood Police Department.
He was a member of Valley Lakes Country Club and active member of Wilmor Sportman’s Club. He was a Mason and served as the past Associate Bethel Guardian and Grand Officer in Jobs Daughter of Chillicothe over a 15-year period.
Visitation was Tuesday at Wright and Salmon Mortuary in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bartonville Christian Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Jack Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. that day.
