Hubert H. Mattox, 81, died Sept. 23, 2008, at his residence.
Born April 25, 1927 in Paris, IL. to Hubert G. and Nola (Klien) Mattox, he married Anita M. Muller. He later married Norma L. Presley in June 1967. She survives.
He is also survived by four children: Debbie Miller, of Tamarace, Fla., Kim Amos of Eureka, Jim Mattox and Nola McCune, both of Chillicothe; two grandsons; and his companion service dog, Duke.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Mattox.
He served in the U.S. Army Military Police Motor Brigade from 1945 till 1949, and was a member of VFW Post 4999, and the American Legion.
He was a longtime Chillicothe businessman and a lithographer at Flemming and Potter for 27 years. He also served on the Chillicothe Police Department for several years, and was Chief of Police in 1969.
He was a Wild Fowl Carver, a member of the National Woodcarvers Association, a slow pitcher for Bernie’s Club 29, and participated in Senior Olympics.
Cremation rites have been accorded by Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Chillicothe. The Rev. Gary Miller will officiate. The family will also receive friends from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the church, where he was a member for 67 years, and served as a trustee. Interment will be in the Chillicothe City Cemetery at a later date.
