Pack up the kids and head on down to the Illinois River at the foot of Walnut Street for the 14th annual “Hog Wild” Rib Class, Chili Cook-off and ChillBilly Fishin’ Tourney Oct. 3-5.

Proceeds from the event benefit Rescue 33, Chillicothe’s all-volunteer ambulance squad.

New to the weekend is the ChillBilly Fishin’ Tournament on Oct. 5, with Asian carp as the fishermen’s target.

Cost is $50 per boat, with sign-in from 6-7 a.m. and fishing starting at 7 a.m.

Contestants must used a hand-held dip net, not a fishing pole, and have a fishing license.

Each heat will have a prize for funniest and most original costumes.

Payouts, which are dependent on the number of entries, go to the top four in each heat and the top overall.

The Rib Classic Cook-off begins at 9 a.m. Oct. 4 at Cutright Park, with judging at 3:30 p.m. and awards at 4 p.m.

Cost is $35 by Sept. 29, $40 after.

Each contestant receives one rack of ribs for judging only.

Prizes are $150 and 2009 entry for first place, $100 for second and $75 for third.

A showmanship trophy will be given to the booth or cook with the best decorations.

Also Oct. 4 is the Chili Cook-off. Cooking begins at 10 a.m., with turn-in no later than 2 p.m.

Registration fee is $20 per pot of chili.

Prizes are $100 and 2009 entry, $50 second and $25 third.

The weekend begins Oct. 3 with a fish and chicken fry at the Rescue 33 food tent from 4-8 p.m.

Other food vendors will be Castaways and Davis Concession.

There is a beer tent from 4 p.m.-midnight, with music by GST Productions at 4 p.m. A Jazzercise presentation is at 6 p.m., and band Mid-Life Crisis performs from 8 p.m.-midnight.

A custom car and motorcycle cruisin starts at noon Oct. 4, with a burnout/smokeshow following awards.

The chili pepper-eating contest is at 12:30 p.m., with an auction of items donated by area businesses at 1 p.m.

All auction proceeds benefit Crossword Café.

The squealing commences with the pig-kissing contest at 3:30 p.m.

On Oct. 5 is the Chillbilly Fishin’ Tournament, with music by GST Productions and a 1 p.m. performance by the Hair Co. Kids.
