Hot mulled cider, golden-brown turkey and fragrant cookies ... sharing the gift of homemade food is perhaps one of the most personal of holiday gifts.

And with the holidays fast approaching, the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin’s annual Holiday Cookbook offers an opportunity to share some of those special recipes with others.

Those who submit a recipe will be entered into a drawing for an extra holiday treat — a $50 gift certificate to the Shoppes at Grand Prairie.

“Almost everyone has a favorite holiday recipe — something that evokes warm memories of holidays past — and cravings for feasts to come,” said Beth Gehrt, co-publisher and executive editor of TimesNewspapers. “We invite our readers to submit one or more recipes. We will print as many as space allows. ”

Recipes will be divided into five general categories: main course, appetizers, snacks and drinks, dessert, cookies and bread.

E-mail recipes as a Word attachment to dreaska@timestoday.com, or fill out the form in the newspaper and mail to: Holiday Cookbook, PO Box 9426, Peoria, IL 61612-9426.

Due to space limitations and multiple entries, recipes will be chosen for publication at the editor’s discretion.

Recipes must be received by Oct. 17. Selected recipes will be published in the Holiday Cookbook and inserted in the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin Nov. 5.
