- Thursday is the anniversary of the nuclear reactor accident at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in the Soviet Union (now Ukraine). The accident happened April 26, 1986.

- While William Shakespeare’s exact birth date is unknown, it’s thought to be April 23 and is commonly celebrated on this day (Monday).

- Tuesday is the anniversary of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger being inaugurated as pope. It happened on April 24, 2005.

- Tuesday will see new albums from Anathema, Jack White, Eve 6, Lee Brice, The Dandy Warhols and more.

- The new movies opening in wide release this week are “The Five-Year Engagement,” R, starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt; “The Raven,” an R thriller starring John Cusack; “The Pirates! Band of Misfits,” an animated PG film; and “Safe,” R, starring Jason Statham.

- The NBA playoffs begin Saturday, and a handful of games will be played that day and Sunday.
