The Big Sandy Spurs Crazyhorse chapter of the Women in the Outdoors is hosting an all-day event Aug. 28 at the Chillicothe Sportsmen’s Club.
“Our program is about encouraging women to try new outdoor activities in a safe environment that makes them feel at ease,” Brenda Valentine, the National Wild Turkey Federation spokeswoman said through a press release.
“This event is also an opportunity for women of all walks of life, singles, moms, daughters, young and old, to spend a weekend outdoors, away from home, having fun and making new friends.”
The Women in the Outdoors program, which started in 1998, has events that are designed for women and strive to provide expert instruction and hands-on education about skills that are important for conservation.
“The Women in the Outdoors program allows the NWTF to reach an entirely new audience, one that has the potential to benefit conservation efforts,” Valentine said. “It’s an opportunity for women to find great satisfaction and enjoyment in the outdoors.”
Through sponsorship and local chapter support, the NWTF is able to hold the program at little cost to participants.
All participants will receive membership in the Women in the Outdoors program and a subscription to Turkey Country, the NWTF’s magazine.
The event is scheduled to have courses in: handguns, rifle shooting, trap shooting, ATV safety, fishing, line dancing, photography, canoe and kayak, backyard habitat, horseback riding, orienteering, animal calls, archery, tree identification, self-defense, herbal tea, tomahawk throwing, mountain bikes, paintball and wood carving.
Registration forms for the event are at Geiger’s True Value hardware store.
