A new face was unveiled at Friday night’s Pack the Place night with the new Illinois Valley Central mascot.

“We always have had a mascot and it was time to update our image,” athletics director Denny O’Boyle said. “You could say that this is an update of our Grey Ghost mascot.”

The Grey Ghost, who remains nameless, will appear at IVC sporting events, with the possibility of being available for community events.

The Ghost costume, which cost about $6,000, was paid for entirely by the Ghost Boosters.

The costume was purchased from Cowan Costume in Texas.

Plans for buying the costume have been in the works since the beginning of the school year.

“I think as you drive around the IVC community, you see the Ghost as more than just a high
school mascot,” IVC superintendent Nick Polyak said.

“We wanted to have a first-class representative of that.”
