Chillicothe, Ill. -

The Lady Ghosts volleyball team had a very busy week but are happy with the results.

On Sept. 30, the Lady Ghosts varsity volleyball team traveled to Kewanee in their first of two matches on the week, a change from the past several weeks, in which they only had one match.

The Ghosts took to the court a little rusty, as their opponents kept themselves in each game and kept the Ghosts on their toes.

In the first match, the Ghosts pulled away and won, 25-17, but the second was a little closer, as the Ghosts won the match and the game with a slim margin of victory in a 25-20 win.

Offensively, the Ghosts had a nice diversity, with several girls getting in on the scoring.

Both Jessie Ely and Kelsey Brooke each had one service ace for the game.
Amanda Wilson had a strong performance, leading the team with 14 assists on the night.

Brooke also led the team in kills with six for the match.

The team was led defensively by Laci Peterson, who had the team high in blocks for the game with three.

“Coming off a two-week stretch of only one match per week, the girls felt and looked a bit rusty at times, but pulled together to get the win,” head coach Lisa Miller said of her team.

The Ghosts’ second match of the week was a home match against the Rock Falls Rockets.

The Ghosts won the match, but both games went down to the wire as the Rockets proved to be a formidable opponent.

The first game, the Ghosts won by a score of 25-19, as the Rockets continued to stay in the game and make sure that IVC did not win the game going away.

The second one was a little closer, as the Rockets refused to give up or go away, but the Ghosts still won it, 25-23.

Both Ely and Chelsy Stumbaugh each had two service aces for the team.

Michelle O’Brien and Brooke led the charge offensively, each racking up eight kills.

Brooke and Peterson anchored the team’s defense, each with four blocks.

“Although Rock Falls had a scrappy back-row defense, our offense was very successful due to their weakness in blocking,” Miller said of the Thursday victory.

The varsity girls now have a strong 12-2 record overall with a 3-1 conference record.

The Ghosts played again Tuesday at the Mendota Trojans.

On Thursday, the Ghosts will get a chance at revenge when they play conference rival Spring Valley Hall, who beat them at IVC earlier in the year in a thrilling yet heartbreaking loss. The game is at 5:30 p.m. at Spring Valley Hall.
