Reading this week’s police news leaves at least one impression of crime in town — scams abound.
Calling both individuals and businesses, unscrupulous people are trying to reach into residents’ pocketbooks and take them for whatever they can.
Those calling individuals are telling them they owe money and will be arrested if they do not pay. The Illinois Attorney General’s office reported to the Chillicothe Police Department that scam is going around the state.
Some elderly residents also reported in previous months scammers posing as their relatives needing money to be sent by Western Union to be bailed from jail.
Even Chillicothe businesses were targeted recently as solicitors tried to sell advertising for school athletics.
While many residents and business owners do recognize there are scams going around, sometimes those scams can catch residents off guard.
Do not give them any personal information and ask them for a phone number to call them back at a later time.
If reputable, they should not badger or curse.
Call the Chillicothe Police Department with any information about a possible scam.
