Gladys J. Gardner, 71, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, formerly of Chillicothe, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at the Whispering Hills Care Center in Mount Vernon.
Born Oct. 10, 1938, in Mount Vernon to William Paul and Edith (Kellogg) Beckholt, she married Thomas A. Gardner Nov. 1, 1974. He survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Cheryl (Paisley) and John Ewalt of Mount Vernon, Lori (Paisley) and Jack Furgerson of Chillicothe, Gwen (Paisley) and Rick Gibson of Bellville and Holly (Paisley) Rainey of Newport News, Va.; five stepchildren, Tom Gardner Jr., Linda Gardner, Karen (Gardner) and Robert Betancourt, all of Mount Vernon, Laura (Gardner) and Gary Wedemyer of Howard; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Luella McMahan of Edelstein.
One sister, Reta Neighbarger, preceded her in death.
She retired in 1996 from the Mount Vernon Developmental Center, where she had been employed for 30 years.
She was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were Feb. 10 at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon where visitation preceded services. Burial was in Mound View Cemetery.
