Jim Edwards, 87, of East Peoria, formerly of Chillicothe, died Feb. 26, 2010, at his residence in the presence of his family.

Born March 7, 1922 in Chicago, to Jamie W. and Jenny (Burke) Edwards, he married Evadale Hoisington Feb. 17, 1950, in Kahoka, Mo. She died in 2000.

Surviving are two sons, John (Diana) Edwards of Galesburg and Dana (Sheryl) Wright of Bonner Springs, Kan.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Lauterdale of Florida.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerri Lee Rodgers.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II, serving aboard the Battleship California.

He was a switchman/conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad, retiring in 1985 after 44 years of service, and was a member of the United Transportation Union Local 445.

He was the first Post Commander of VFW Post 4999 in Chillicothe.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Davison-Fulton Anderson Chapel. Visitation will be from 5 to  7 p.m. Friday at Davison-Fulton Anderson Chapel. Interment will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery, with the Rev. Ted Mitchell officiating. Full military honors will be accorded.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
