Dean R. Riggins, 82, of Chillicothe died at 8:46 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Nov. 3, 1927 in Peoria to Orlin and Jeannette (Gilmore) Riggins, he married Marybelle Crutchfield on June 27, 1948, in Chillicothe. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Michael D. (Debbie) Riggins of Bay Point, Calif., and Cindy (David Mathias) Riggins of Chillicothe; and four grandchildren.

He graduated from Chillicothe High School and was a World War II veteran serving in the Navy.

He was a carpenter. He built the Chillicothe Marina Motel in 1961. He owned and operated Riggins Construction and also worked for V. Jobst & Sons.

He served on the Chillicothe Park District board for more than 40 years and held the position as past president.

He was a member of the VFW Post 4999,  Pearce Community Center, a founding member of the Indian Head Boat Club, George Washington Masonic Lodge 222, Mohammad Shrine of Peoria and the Chillicothe First United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe. Funeral services will be at 11a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Ted Mitchell will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service with committal of ashes at a later date.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Chillicothe Park District or Rescue 33.
