Harold L. Hailey, 80, of Chillicothe, died at 6:46 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.

Born May 27, 1928, in Peoria to Rex C. and Susie Marie Hailey, he married Betty L. DeJaynes May 22, 1948, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Cheryl (Ronald) Fults of Creve Coeur; two sons, Van Hailey of Drumright, Okla., and Dr. David (Susan) Hailey of Raleigh, N.C.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty McMurry of Republic, Mo., and Marjorie (Glenn) Slabaugh of Pekin.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Michael, Norman Hailey and Claude Hailey.

He worked at International Paper for 41 years, retiring in 1990, and later worked in the transportation department for Illinois Valley Central Unit District 321.

He was a member and deacon of Rome Baptist Church.

A celebration of life is at 11 a.m. Friday at his church. The Rev. Dr. Lloyd Moss will officiate.

Burial will be in Chillicothe City Cemetery.
