Frank Lhotka II

ODELL — Frank M. Lhotka II, 71, of Odell, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2017, at 11:08 p.m. at Evenglow Inn in Pontiac following a long journey with Lewy Body Disease.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home in Pontiac with a private graveside service at Union Cemetery in Odell at a later date.

Duffy-Baier-Snedecor Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements.

Frank was born July 7, 1946, in Chicago, Ill., to Dr. Frank M. and Lauresa (Stafford) Lhotka. He married Candace Hittenmiller on May 30, 1970, in DeKalb, Ill. She survives in Odell, Ill.

Also surviving are his children, John (Laura) Lhotka of Lexington, Kentucky and Katie (Rob) Blair of Indianapolis, Indiana; one brother, Peter Lhotka of Dewey, Arizona; one sister, Jennifer Turner of Winfield, Illinois; mother-in-law, Rita Hittenmiller of Pontiac, Illinois; and four grandchildren, Anna, Alex, Lucy, and Jill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Vern Hittenmiller.

Frank was a graduate of Lyons Township High School, Class of 1964. He received a B.A. from Western Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Professional Education from Northern Illinois University.

Frank, a lifelong educator, began his career in 1972 in Union, Illinois, teaching social studies and science. He joined the faculty at Odell Grade School in 1975 where he stayed until retirement in 2006. Frank also enjoyed summer employment in seed corn production leading field crews with DeKalb Ag and Cargill.

Frank was a beloved husband and father, a talented teacher and a music lover. He enjoyed travel, especially incorporating a jazz concert or trip to the beach. He was always ready for a long hot day in the corn fields.

The family wishes to thank everyone at Evenglow, especially at Evenglow Inn for the wonderful personalized care in Frank’s final weeks.

Memorials may be made in Frank’s name to Evenglow Inn or the Odell Community Food Pantry.
