HUGO (PG) Martin Scorsese, master of the testosterone-and-violence art film, goes in an entirely different direction and achieves masterful results. He puts you in the middle of a Dickensian world - actually, 1930s Paris - in which a 13-year-old boy (the marvelous Asa Butterfield) must unlock the mystery of a mechanical robot in order to find a connection with his deceased father. Great supporting performance from Chloe Grace Moretz.
