Have you seen the Chillicothe Police Department's newest addition?

You may not have since he's usually on the streets when most residents are sleeping, but he's been in town for a little over a week.

Officer Nick Bridges and K-9 Gosh (pronounced go sshh) are spending some time together in preparation for three weeks of training beginning Oct. 4.

Gosh means ghost in Dutch, and Bridges said probably the community will call him Ghost since it's close enough to Gosh. And after all, Chillicothe is the home of the IVC Grey Ghosts.

While the city's first K-9 dog, Konan, came from Germany, Ghost hails from Belgium. He knows Dutch commands instead of German ones.

Don't let Bridges' quiet demeanor fool you, either. He is excited to be Ghost's handler. He went into policework hoping to eventually become a K-9 handler.

See next week's paper for more information about Ghost, his training and his handler.
