Dunlap has hired Heather Benway as its new softball coach.
She replaces Brittany Clarke, who spent just a season as the Eagles skipper.
“I truly enjoy the sport,” said Benway, an English teacher at Dunlap, “and it’s always been a part of my life.”
The former Midland assistant is five months pregnant and plans to only coach until May.
An assistant hasn’t been hired yet to fill in for her.
“I hope to be in this position for an extended period of time,” Benway said. “I think it is a great opportunity to lay some groundwork to build a competitive program...”
Benway, formerly, Wiley, was a first-team Mid-Illini Conference catcher at Illinois Valley Central in 2004.
She becomes the seventh Dunlap coach since 2003 and the third first-year M-I coach heading into this season.
Last season, Dunlap (22-12, 5-9) finished sixth in league play but won a regional for the first time since 2002.
