You would expect any good editor to love to read, and, of course, I do. But finding time to read while chasing stories and reading the pages of the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin before they go to print can make my reading habit harder to happen.

That is not the case when it came to Nancy G. Brinker's new book, "Promise Me," about her sister, Susan G. Komen, the namesake of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

I knew I had to read it — I have two aunts, a cousin and many more relatives who have had breast cancer. Once I read the excerpt in Parade magazine a few weeks ago, I was hooked.

I'm about halfway through the book, but it already brought me to tears. To hear Brinker talk about "Suzy," their adventures, along with the history of breast cancer intertwined into the story (of which I have my own relative in the family tree who had a breast removed while on her kitchen table), touched my heart.

Since 1982, Brinker began fulfilling a promise made to her sister through Susan G. Komen for the Cure, including raising $1.5 billion for research and programs relating to breast cancer.

So, I'm wondering, will Chillicotheans be traveling to Barnes & Noble in Peoria tomorrow? Brinker will sign copies of her book from 4 to 6 p.m. She also will read excerpts from the book.

While the event is not in Chillicothe, we have many breast cancer survivors in town. If you go, be sure to let me know how it was by sharing a photo or an opinion of the book.
