A Chillicothe man escaped critical injury after an all-terrain vehicle accident Saturday afternoon.

Matthew E. Bohm, 52, of 1616 Wilson St., was LifeFlighted to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria following the accident.

According to a Peoria County Sheriff’s Department report, Bohm was driving a 2004 Suzuki ATV about three-fourths of a mile west of the access road in the 2100 block of Benedict Street in the Galena Road Gravel pits off Truitt Avenue.

As he came to the edge of a large dirt mound, a portion of the mound was missing and Bohm fell over the ATV. The vehicle then landed on top of him.

When the Chillicothe Fire Department arrived on the scene, the area was locked and chained.

After the lock was cut, and due to the bad road conditions on the private property, rescue personnel were transported to the scene by ATV. The Peoria County Sheriff’s Department arrived and took over the investigation.

Damage to Bohm’s ATV included the handle bars, the right mirror and plastic in front of the handle bars. The vehicle was towed by Inabit Towing.

According to the PCSD and the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s office, no charges have been filed against Bohm to date.

OSF released no information about Bohm’s medical condition, although he has been released from the hospital.
