The IVC Educational Foundation will host an International Food Fair Dec. 17 to celebrate its recent awarding of scholarships to three Illinois Valley Central High School students. The scholarships are for the IVC trip to Spain in April.

The competitive scholarships are awarded in keeping with the IVCEF’s goal to, “enhance educational opportunities and encourage student development by providing broadened global perspectives and cultural enrichment,” noted
IVCEF president Curt Pence.

Scholarships were awarded to IVC Spanish language students Sameer Al-Khenaizi, Cassie Ward and Rebekha Crockett.

The International Food Fair will be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the IVC High School commons. The event will be prior to the IVC-Dunlap basketball game.

The International Food Fair will include Spanish, German and French cuisine prepared by Tim & Shelly’s 2nd Street
Bar & Grill.

“The purpose of the fair is to celebrate our first group of scholarship winners and encourage support for the foundation’s programs,” Pence added.

IVC foreign language students will serve the food.

Tickets are $7 each, with senior citizens (age 60 and over) $6. The meal includes the entrees, lemonade, tea or coffee.

The IVCEF’s goal to enhance educational opportunities is accomplished through donations to the not-for-profit organization. The International Food Fair is a fundraising event for the foundation. Those attending the fair will help the IVCEF raise money for future scholarships, said Pence.

The IVC student trip to Spain will take place during the school’s spring break. Students will arrive in Barcelona and continue the eight-day trip by train with stops in Toledo and Madrid.

Students will also visit Plaza Colon, the Prado Museum, and the Olympic city of Barcelona.
Excursions are planned at each location reports Spanish language teacher Monica Lynch, who adds that they hope to see a soccer game and do some shopping as well.
