CEFCU officials are driving into Chillicothe’s future as they announced the building of a new member center.
Where CEFCU officials and Chillicotheans stood Wednesday morning will be a new service offered to the credit union’s members — three drive-up service lanes.
CEFCU President/CEO Mark Spenny said the time is right.
“We’ve kind of outgrown our current one,” said Spenny about the facility at 320 S. Fourth St.
“There’s been great growth in Chillicothe and it continues to be very strong,” said Spenny. “We want to grow with the community. We can better serve the community and we have the opportunity for growth.”
Opening in March 1997, the Chillicothe member center will offer several amenities that are newer to CEFCU members.
The building will be the second LEED certified, standing for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
Spenny said the 4,500-square-foot building will utilize recycled and reused materials, natural light and be environmentally friendly.
The new Chillicothe member center also will be the third branch for e-services.
An area will be designated for demonstrations of CEFCU online and assist members with bill pay.
The employees then can assist members in either showing them how CEFCU online works or help them set up their bills to be paid online.
The most recent branch to have the feature is in Sheridan Village.
Members also may use the computer there for CEFCU online or at the convenience of home.
“We’re trying to make CEFCU more convenient with drive-up lanes, 24/7 Fast Track Tellers and expanded services,” said Spenny.
The Fast Track Teller machines will be available inside 24/7 in the lobby vestibule.
One drive-up Money Center 24 ATM also will be available.
Other services for individual and member business accounts include processing loans, making account transactions, and giving information for inquiries.
Those needing home loans will be able to see an on-site CEFCU mortgage originator.
Additionally, the staff of seven will grow to 12, according to CEFCU officials.
“The people they’ve known will still be here and they have deep roots in Chillicothe,” said Spenny.
Residents should see dirt moving this week, Spenny said.
The building, which will be situated between the AC Gentrol building and the Murphy’s U-Store It, is expected to be finished in late January or early February.
The 1.7 acre lot will be full between the building, parking lot and landscaping.
Spenny said the building will look similar to the Springfield member center being built. A rendering of the building should be available next month, officials said.
In 1937, CEFCU began with a handful of members, and now has grown to more than 280,000 members in 19 central Illinois member centers and three member centers in California.
“CEFCU’s members are the owners,” said Bruce Dimler, the chairman of CEFCU’s Board of Directors.
