Five candidates gave their opinions and views at Dunlap Valley Middle School Tuesday night.

At the Meet the School Board Candidates event, held at Spartan Theater, the candidates answered prepared questions, as well as questions that community members thought of as the event progressed.

The event started with a short introduction by each candidate to give a background about themselves, as well as tell of some of their stances. After the introductions, each candidate then answered various prepared questions, many of which centered around the district’s strategic plan.

After answering these, the candidates then took questions from the community about which subjects they were concerned.

These questions dealt with offering more trade classes, diversity in the district, the top problem affecting the district and even the candidates’ thoughts about the Wisconsin labor problems.

The evening ended with the candidates giving closing statements, as well as meeting community members after the event ended and answering other questions.

There are currently four board positions open on the ballot this year. Out of those four, only two can be elected from incorporated areas.

On the ballot, three new candidates are running from incorporated areas.

They are, in order on the ballot, Beth Rhee, H. Edward Babcock and Dawn Bozeman. The other two candidates, Amy Fairfield Doering and Joe Eberle, are running as part of the unincorporated area.

They are also both currently members of the board.

Below is a profile of each of the candidates.

Beth Rhee

Age: 42

Marriage: 18 years to Dr. Ben Rhee

Children: 4

Occupation: Registered Nurse.

Education: Bachelor’s of science in nursing from Jamestown College.

Involvement in community: Member of Medical Alliance. Supporting kids in school.

Why running: I have become very supportive and passionate about helping take a child and figuring out how that child learns and how to teach the child to bring the school to life. There’s nothing more important than our kid’s education. It’s not only their future, it’s our future, and we need to prepare them the best way we can.

What you can bring to board: I can bring high standards and a commitment to excellence and accountability. It’s how I’ve been my whole life.

Amy Fairfield Doering

Age: 48

Marriage: Not married

Children: 4 (two children, two step-children). 1 grandson.

Occupation: Director of Assurance of Learning at Bradley University. Part-time instructor.

Education: Undergraduate degree in finance from Bradley University. MBA in business from Bradley.
