A Chillicothe Junior High student was arrested Friday following a second incident of aggravated assault at the school last week.
The 13-year-old seventh-grade male student allegedly held a knife on another seventh-grade 13-year-old male student after school but on school grounds Feb. 23.
A second similar incident during school hours involving the same student threatening a different classmate who had witnessed the first incident reportedly occurred Friday. After the Chillicothe Police Department was notified, it was through their investigation that school officials were made aware of the Feb. 23 incident.
The student with the knife was arrested and charged with illegal possession of a weapon at school and two counts of aggravated assault.
He was transported to the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center. Following a court hearing Monday, he was released to a parent.
He has not been in school since the incident, and a student disciplinary meeting was at Tuesday’s IVC District 321 school board meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Nick Polyak stressed, “Nobody was injured at any time during either incident.”
“We followed all school policies and procedures,” said Polyak. “Unfortunately, kids make poor decisions sometimes."
