Students are coming back to a freshly painted building, which accentuates a mural embracing the school’s mission statement.
“Building a foundation that empowers diverse learners in their journey to become successful 21st Century citizens,” is painted below the mural, which features dinosaurs, a futuristic world and learning tools, such as books, a compass and a microscope.
“One of the things we planned on doing in our building was to spruce up the building,” Wilder-Waite Principal Todd Jefferson said.
Local artist Vin Luong painted the mural last winter after school hours and it took him about a week.
“It was neat because every day the students saw different pieces of the outline as it came together,” Jefferson said.
There were other pieces painted throughout the school, but the mural alone cost about $3,000.
“We had the whole building painted over summer and we’re ready to move forward into the school year,” Jefferson added.
Along with the mural and freshly painted building, there will be some other new ideas implemented this school year.
Many of the teachers have gone through the continunous improvement training.
“We’re trying to create more student-centered goals to take place in the classroom,” Jefferson said.
Some teachers have not gone through the training, but are still trying to bring new things into their classrooms.
