Springfield, Ill. -

The Chillicothe Times-Bulletin received two Illinois Press Association awards today at the annual IPA luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield.

The Chillicothe Times-Bulletin received second place in Division A (newspapers less than 3,000 in circulation) in community service category for its coverage when The Wall That Heals, a traveling Vietnam wall, stopped at Shore Acres Park a year ago.

"Great continuous coverage from start to finish," noted the judges. "'Faces of the Vietnam War' is especially touching because it records stories that otherwise might never have been told. Great way to help preserve an important part of our history."

"Faces of the Vietnam War" featured short biographies of Chillicothe men and what they did while serving during Vietnam on the front page of the newspaper.

Associate editor Karen Danner won third place for headline writing.

"We are excited to be recognized for our work," said editor Chillicothe Times-Bulletin editor Marianne Gillespie. "But, Karen and I both find the greatest awards we receive are the compliments that those in the community give us. We strive to produce a paper full of items Chillicotheans want, or need, to know."
