Want to take any active part in reporting crimes in Chillicothe without anyone knowing your name?

The Chillicothe Police Department is encouraging residents to log onto its Web site — chillicothepd.org.

Created about one year ago by officer Nick Bridges, the site offers a crime-tip hotline, which allows residents to report anonymously.

“On the crime-tip hotline, you can use it anonymously or leave your phone number if you want to,” said Bridges. “We want people to be more active in using it.”

Residents can report crimes, suspicious activity, burning or animal complaints, high weeds, trash
in weeds, derelict vehicles, basically any complaint, etc.

“We’re big on pushing the burning ordinance this year,” said Bridges.

Residents will receive a written warning for the first offense, but will be cited for violation of city code the second time.

“All of the city ordinances are on the site, and we’re also linked to the city’s Web site (ci.chillicothe.il.us).”

Bridges said the CPD officers have already started spring cleanup around town, which will continue through the end of April.

The site is checked daily, and Bridges said a few people have already left messages on the site regarding derelict vehicles.

For people without computers, call the CrimeStoppers number at 274-4300.

“We really just want people to start using our Web site,” said Bridges. “We can’t possibly see everything, and this is completely anonymous.”
