Two Chillicothe men were treated at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria late Friday after a single-vehicle crash in Rome.

The driver of the vehicle, Lucas M. Bartlett, 18, of 220 N. Hazel, was cited at the hospital for driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and improper lane usage.

The accident occurred about 11 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Third and Main streets in Rome. Bartlett was driving a truck north on Third Street and entered a curve at a high rate of speed, according to a police report.

The truck left the road, struck a fence, crossed over a field, hit another fence, crossed Washington Street and overturned. It came to rest on its driver’s side.

Bartlett and a passenger in the vehicle, Jacob Adams, 59, of 113 W. Court, had left the scene by the time sheriff’s deputies arrived.

Several beer bottles and an opened, spilled bottle of beer were found inside the cab of the truck, the report stated.

The two men later were located at a residence. Bartlett told deputies he had six beers before the crash. Both men were transported to Saint Francis, where they were treated and released.
