With the beginning of the year comes a change in personnel of the city’s economic development director.

Mayor Troy Childers Sr. appointed Rachael Parker at the Chillicothe City Council meeting Jan. 9, to begin work Jan. 18 with an annual salary of $48,000. She was reportedly laid off by the city of Peoria due to budget cuts.

Former Economic Development Director Greg Truninger left the city Jan. 6 to become a project manager for fuel systems at Caterpillar Inc. in Mossville.

Truninger, who worked for the city for two-and-one-half years, thanked the city for their support and said he would help in the future with anything he could, according to his resignation letter. The council accepted his resignation, with regrets.

“Greg, as Alderman Boyer had said in the past, he jumped in with a bunch of sharks and came out mostly whole, and he’s done a very good job ...” said Childers. Truninger was in attendance at the meeting and spoke briefly.

After the meeting, Truninger said he would like to see continued efforts both on riverfront development and the viaduct overhaul.

“I’d like a continual push of bringing people to town,” he added for both visitors and new residents moving to town.
He knows Parker and said she will “fit right in.”

“She is personable, and her forte is small business.” With her broad network, he said he expected her to be able to tap into resources to assist the community.
