Economic development director Greg Truninger is leaving the city as an employee, but will remain a well-known face around town.
“He did a fantastic job and we hate to lose him, but we hate to stand in anyone’s way to better themselves,” said Mayor Troy Childers Sr. about Truninger taking a Caterpillar position.
Truninger submitted his resignation recently, which will be effective Jan. 6.
Childers said he wanted to move quickly in replacing him, pointing to projects in the works for developing the riverfront for public use, adding new docks and upgrading the downtown through Tax Increment Financing funds.
Truninger began his stint with the city in May 2009, taking over for Lisa Burnett.
He moved to Chillicothe in 1996 and has two children with his wife, Kimberly McCord-Truninger. He coaches soccer at Pearce Community Center and has been involved in the community.
Truninger was not available for comment.
He is the third supervisor position the mayor faces replacing within the last year.
Josh Cooper was hired to replace Dave Tutterow as superintendent of public works, and recently Cooper was acknowledged for six months of service.
After Chillicothe Police Chief Steve Maurer resigned, Sgt. Rich Mark filled in as acting chief. Being close to retirement, Mark decided to not be considered for the position, so Sgt. Dan Adcock is currently acting chief. That position is expected to be filled in March.
