Four village board members are running for re-election this year.
Shelia Taylor, Colleen Slane and Jeff Dixon are all running for four-year terms.
Meanwhile, Gregory Micklos is running for a two-year term that was left by Mayor Jack Fennell after the last election.
A questionnaire was sent out to all board members, below are the responses from Slane and Taylor, the two that responded.
Sheila Taylor
Age: 46
Marriage status: Married for 17 years
Children: Two sons—15 years and 13 years.
Party affiliation: Republican
Why are you running for re-election: To continue to help make Dunlap a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
How long have you been a part of the board: I’ve been a Trustee since 2006
Things done while a trustee: I was instrumental in requesting IDOT to install the four-way stop at Illinois Route 91 and Legion Hall Road. I have submitted a grant proposal for the Safe Routes to School program to install a sidewalk along Legion Hall Road from the Copperfield Subdivision to Dunlap Grade School. I currently chair the Dunlap Activities Committee to promote bringing a variety social activities to Dunlap for our residents (eg. Cooking class, Yoga, Fitness)
Future goals as a trustee: To help guide the growth of Dunlap by encouraging economic development and the development of our recreational assets (ie. the Rock Island Trail and our parks).
Colleen Slane
Age: 52
Marriage status: Divorced
Children: Son and daughter
Party affiliation: Republican
Why are you running for re-election: I have lived in the village of Dunlap for a number of years and love the small town ambiance and local history. As trustee I want to help preserve what makes Dunlap unique. According to the recent census, the village population increased to 1,386 residents from 926 in 2000. I want to continue working with the village board as we make plans for more growth in the future.
How long have you been a part of the board: Appointed trustee in 2006 and elected to four-year term in April 2007
Things done while a trustee: Dunlap Days—event organizer since 2008. Brought back festival after a 15-year hiatus. Helped bring in Mickie’s Pizzeria Sports Grille—a new business in Dunlap. Chaired Community Comparison Committee. Member of Marketing Committee, which will soon launch a new website.
Future goals as a trustee: Develop new ordinances as village grows. Attract more business. More community events. Improve problem areas.
