IVC joins Mid-State 6 for football

The Illinois Valley Central football team will have a new conference after this season.

After the 2010 season, the Ghosts will leave the North Central Illinois Conference and join the Mid-State 6.

The Illinois Valley Central Marching Grey Ghosts played old favorites and two of their three selections for this year’s program, “Chronometry,” Sunday afternoon at the corner of Second and Chestnut streets. Tim and Shelly’s 2nd Street Bar & Grill hosted a lunch/dinner fundraiser, as well as plenty of raffles, auctions, vendors and more.
 

District 150 selects Kinney as interim comptroller

Dr. David Kinney, who retired after the 2008-09 academic year as superintendent of Illinois Valley Central School District 321, will begin the 2010-11 academic year as interim comptroller/treasurer of Peoria District 150.

Kinney’s appointment was approved unanimously Aug. 16 at a special meeting of the District 150 board.

IVC Band Bash Sunday

If residents are looking for a laid-back Sunday afternoon of fun, they may not want to look any further than downtown Chillicothe for the IVC Band Bash.

“It’s kind of like an appreciation concert,” said IVC director of bands Matt Chapman. “We want to give back to the community and give them a musical treat.”

Meisinger begins school year as St. Ed’s principal

St. Edward School in Chillicothe has a new principal for the 2010-11 school year, and he is looking forward to the challenge of continuing to “move the school in the right direction.”

The Illinois Valley Central District 321 school board discussed the start of the school year, with the focus of looking forward at its Aug. 10 meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Nick Polyak discussed the closing of many construction projects this summer, including Mossville Junior High’s gym replacement and roof re-coating, as well as IVC High School’s door replacement and repairs.

South School ready for students

Third graders to be in building

This fall the children at South Primary School will be welcomed to a slightly larger learning facility than in years past: 27,000 square feet larger.

School board honors Sterling Merit award winners

It was a night of recognitions at the May 10 meeting of the Illinois Valley Central District 321 school board.

Thirteen high school seniors from IVC were recognized at the meeting and at an honors banquet at the Peoria Civic Center last week for being named Sterling Merit scholars.

Prom: A costly evening?

One prom ticket – $35, a dress or tux – $200, beauty and accessories – $50. 
A night full of memories?

Not exactly priceless, but for most area students, the cost is worth it in the end.

Recently, prom committees from four area schools — East Peoria, Morton,
Washington and Illinois Valley Central — answered questions about the cost of prom. 

Behavior matrix sets students’ expectations

The behavior committees for schools in Illinois Valley Central School District 321 are working together on a plan that will help to unify the behavior expectations throughout the district.

Representatives from each school presented their plan at District 321’s school board meeting April 27.

IVC raises nearly $5,000 for cystic fibrosis

Retired assistant principal Bob Howell returned to Illinois Valley Central High School March 25 to emcee the student council’s box lunch auction raising funds for cystic fibrosis.
