Chillicotheans may want to visit Chillicothe Elementary Center Saturday to see what Chillicothe businesses and organizations offer.

Organized by the Chillicothe Leadership Academy Class of 2008, the Business and Volunteer Organization Expo features around 30 booths of local appeal.

Once the class members finished the leadership school last year, they had one more thing to do, a class project.

The class, taught by the University of Illinois Extension unit, was offered by the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce.

The vision of the class for the event is “to promote the businesses and volunteer organizations that the Chillicothe area has to offer to the community.”

According to expo chairwoman Diane Denekas, the goal is to connect residents with businesses and organizations that can meet their individual needs and increase the visibility of the groups.

Seminars also will be available throughout the day, including workmen’s compensation at 10:30 a.m., digital change over/Video on Demand at 11:15 a.m., insurance and investments at 12:30 p.m., disabilities for individuals at 1:30 p.m. and disabilities for employers at 2:30 p.m.

A special celebrity appearance by Zach McAllister of the New York Yankees minor league will be from 1 to 2 p.m. He will autograph baseballs for a $10 donation to his designated charity, PARC.

Admission is free to the event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the school, located at 914 W. Truitt Ave.
