Just a little over a month ago, on the 13th of April, Stadium Pizza opened its doors.

Located in what used to be Grant’s Inn in Mossville, Stadium Pizza is a pizzeria and bar, with an emphasis on being a family restaurant.

Jim Johnson, the owner, said he prides himself on having “a place to talk about sports!”
Stadium Pizza is decorated with old black and white pictures of sport’s greats, instead of being inundated with televisions like the typical sports bar.

Johnson learned his craft working in his family’s Domino’s Pizza as a teenager.
Stadium Pizza found its start at O’Brien Field as a pizza stand, after Johnson had perfected his recipes at home, and then moved to North Adams Street in Peoria last August.

The place needed a new location so it found its way to 10307 N. State St. No matter where it is
located, it may stand out with its popcorn machine and homemade food.

Stadium Pizza was designed as a place for the community to get together and enjoy good food.  Mossville was the place where that could happen, Johnson said.

The business is already sponsoring a baseball team this summer, and Johnson said he hopes to have more community involvement in the future.

Around 16 locals at any given time are employed there. Johnson said he really feels good about helping local high school students learn a good job and gain much-needed experience in the business world.

The menu includes pizza, wings, salads, burgers, tenderloins and many other homemade favorites.

Johnson’s statement on the freshness of the food was simple.

“We don’t have a freezer, we can serve anything but ice-cream.”

He said he wants Stadium Pizza to remind diners of home.

“Home-cooked means the dough isn’t old or frozen, the veggies are fresh and the meat is good quality.”

“You can’t get that sort of quality at a chain pizzeria,” Johnson explains.

With the 100 seats available inside and the 30 more outside, the self-proclaimed “Pizza Guy” is ready to fill stomachs with his varied menu and with his promise to “deliver anywhere, for free,” is sure to make diners next choice Stadium Pizza.

Stadium Pizza is opened 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.  They have a lunch buffet every day from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. that serves all you can eat pizza and salad bar.
