Exhibitors to show off goods for many big parties
“Let them eat cake” may be the new motto of two circulation assistants at the Chillicothe Public Library.
A simple conversation between Jackie Catton and Robin Survis blended a hunger for cake and a community service.
Catton’s daughter married recently, and through Survis’ work acquaintances, they stirred up a discussion about wedding cake.
“It just kinda grew from us being hungry for cake,” said Catton.
Instead of creating a library display, the ladies cooked up a “Wedding Party.”
“We didn’t want it to be a wedding show, but wanted it to be like a party,” said Catton.
A deejay will play music for the event to set the mood.
Finger food from Catering by Design’s Shawn Crabel will be offered.
Award-winning cake creator Barb Evans will create the cake for the event, and Catton will make the punch.
Other vendors include The Hair Company, The Cutting Edge and Picket Fence, as well as a calligrapher.
For wedding attire needs, Christine Perham makes wedding dresses, Linda Herron attends to alterations, and Hayloft Shops offer dresses for mothers.
“It just seems like anytime you plan a big event, the first thing you do is run into Peoria to the big chain stores,” said Catton.
“With the economy, times are tough, and we thought we would promote those locally.”
While Chillicothe or the surrounding areas of Mossville, Dunlap, Lacon or Edelstein may not offer some services, such as tuxedo rental, most others can be found.
“We’ve got all the little things that you need,” said Catton.
Anyone planning a big party — wedding, anniversary, birthday or graduation — or even students who will attend prom may be interested in the event, Catton said.
“You never know what you just might find.”
Complimentary hand massages are planned, as well as samples, door prizes and giveaways.
The free event is from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the public meeting room. Donations are accepted to help with library programs.
