Company becomes city’s largest employer
Mediacom now occupies two buildings on Plaza Drive and celebrated the occasion with a ribbon cutting Thursday.
After purchasing the 7,000-square-foot south building from Champion Fitness, Mediacom created an updated and accessible customer center with new kiosks for hands-on use of high-speed Internet, HDTV and Mediacom phone. It also moved operational support from the north building to make room for service center expansion. The offices house division and region employees who provide operational support (marketing, commercial services, etc.).
At the entry to the south building, customers have hands-on access to video, television with a digital box so they can test any digital products, a telephone to test free long distance or local calling and Internet service.
The 20,000-square-foot north building, which was totally rebuilt, houses modern workspace to accommodate their expanded workforce, and to improve employee experience with better workplace amenities and a more aesthetic environment.
One of those amenities is a sound-masking system, which creates a sound much like a waterfall or wind to cut down on vocal interference from other workers while on the phones.
The building houses the national sales and retention center, which has doubled in size.
Also in that building are the companywide service area and dispatch services, telephone activation center, telemarketing and human resources, employee recruiting and training.
In a press release, Mediacom announced plans to add another 25 agents in 2010 to increase the weekly call volume to between 35,000-40,000.
Currently, Mediacom averages 29,000 calls each week to the national sales and retention center.
Thirty-eight telemarketers covering Illinois, Indiana and Missouri work in four shifts at Mediacom.
The expansion is geared to employ 293 individuals early this year and also to relocate some positions from other areas to Chillicothe.
Employees dispatch about 130 Mediacom field technicians in six states in the Midwest on a normal day.
Expansion is underway to double operations, dispatching twice as many technicians and boosting dispatch positions from 17 to 33, while being open all day seven days a week 365 days each year.
In the call center, 156 representatives work on the floor daily.
Heinz Construction was in charge of the remodeling project.
The Chillicothe Mediacom office contains the most Mediacom employees in the state and provides cable television and telecommunication services in about 350 Illinois communities, villages and counties; as well as residential and business customers throughout the state.
It is the seventh largest cable television company in the nation, and, as one of the leading cable operators, focuses on serving smaller cities and towns.
