Lisa Platz offers quality embroidery
Along with her embroidery machines Calvin and Hobbs, Lisa Platz has taken up residence at 300 W. Pine St., downstairs from another new business, Whispering Palms Tanning.
The town’s newest business, Chillicothe Embroidery, is a perfect fit for someone who learned to sew in sixth grade and loved it.
“I would rather make something from scratch than mend,” said Platz.
Basically a business-to-business store, Chillicothe Embroidery offers a full line of headwear, clothing and sports apparel, all ready to be personalized.
She can also do visors, towels, blouses, chef coats and duffle bags.
A Pekin native, Platz and her husband, Bill, lived in Peoria for a number of years before moving to Chillicothe five years ago.
“I’m really excited to be here,” said Platz. “We just love this town. Once we moved here, we wished we’d have done it a long time ago.”
Once Platz purchased her first embroidery machine, she was hooked.
“I always wanted to try embroidery,” said Platz. “I bought a home machine and that’s what got me going.”
After creating her design on the house-digitized computer, it tells the machines what to do.
“It’s fun, kind of like painting with thread,” said Platz, “but it can be frustrating, too.”
Platz worked for several years at Dynamic Graphics, leaving there as director of the Web services department.
Along the way, the Platzes added a son and a daughter to their family.
Jed, age 31, is in the United States Army stationed at Ft. Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Angela, 32, lives in Mason City and has two daughters, Emma, age 11, and Alyssa, age 6.
Living so close to the Illinois River also gives the Platzes easy access to boating and fishing on their own boat.
Platz said she guarantees quality work for her customers, which must live up to her own standards.
“I’m real particular about my work,” said Platz. “I’m not cheap, but I try to be reasonably priced. I just really want to be able to pay my bills.”
Platz said she currently is open by appointment only, but may eventually add some regular hours at Chillicothe Embroidery.
She can be reached at 690-8500 for price quotes or an appointment.
While promoting businesses, organizations and teams in the Chillicothe area, Platz also wants to do her best for her chosen town.
“I really want the business to contribute to the growth of Chillicothe and the organizations,” said Platz. “I really want it to be a part of it.”
