Year of Beer: The Bitter End—Hops

Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how hops—the classic bittering agents—are grown and processed, in this finale to our "Year of Beer" series. Your guide will be Ellie Repp of Sharp Mountain Hops, a family-owned hop yard in Maquon, IL, which provides craft breweries and home-brewers with local hops. Animal Tracking

Wild animals leave footprints as well as other signs that they are all around us. Learn how to recognize their tracks, fur, and even their scat. Registration requested by Jan. 18.

 

PEARCE

Silversneakers 

In this exercise class from 10:15 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you will have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of motion, and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Cost is $10 for non-members.

 

SilverSneakers Seated Yoga

Includes a variety of stretching exercises in both seated and standing positions to target specific muscle groups and joints within the body to increase muscle tone and build strength. Program meets Thursdays from 9:35 a.m. - 10:05 a.m. Cost is free to members and $10 for non-members.

 

Senior Nutrition Program

Central Illinois Agency on Ageing (CIAA) will now be serving meals in Pearce Community Center’s Community Room on each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  This service is called "CIAA Food and Fellowship". Apostolic Christian Skylines will be preparing the food. Meals will be ordered on the Monday, Wednesday, or Friday before delivery. (EX: Friday meals will be called in on Wednesday, etc.) A signup sheet will be in the Pearce kitchen area from 9am-11am on each meal day. Individuals can call Pearce or come in to sign up. The full menu is available at the front desk and on www.Pearcecc.com. Recommended donation for the meal at the center is $3.00.

 

Line Dancing 

Dance steps, music, and exercise with terrific instructors. This class is a winner and a great way to meet people and make friends. It meets from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Cost is free for members and $2 for non-members.

Cards 

Join other seniors from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursdays and 5 to 9 p.m. on Fridays  in the Senior Room on the first floor to play pinochle, euchre, bridge, hand-in-foot or whatever! Bring a snack to pass and a friend! Cost is free for members and $2 for non-members.

 

Free Community Programs

Chair aerobics are Monday and Wednesday at 10am. Bingo is Friday at 10am. Programs are located in the Community Room and are free to the public.

 

Senior Potluck

Senior Potluck (60 years and older) meets the fourth Tuesday of every month. Seniors meet to have a potluck meal and enjoy an entertaining program. Bring your own table service and a side dish to share. December potluck is the second Tuesday of the month.

 

Pickleball

Pickleball courts are set up Tuesday and Thursdays 1-4 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Cost is free for members and $5 introductory fee for non-members.
