CHILLICOTHE -- Renae Kerrigan, Planetarium Director at Peoria Riverfront Museum, will share stories, images, and science from her trip to the telescopes high on the Andes mountains in remote parts of Chile. Chillicothe Public Library hosts her presentation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4.

In 2015, Kerrigan was one of nine astronomy educators in the United States to visit some of the best telescopes in the world in 2015, through the National Science Foundation-funded Astronomy in Chile Educator Ambassador Program (ACEAP). The program brings amateur astronomers, planetarium personnel, and astronomy educators to US astronomy facilities in Chile. While at these facilities, ACEAP Ambassadors learn about the instruments, the science, data products, and communicating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) concepts. When they return home, the Ambassadors share their experiences and observatory resources with schools and community groups across the US.

“Exploring Telescopes at the Top of the World” will take place Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 6:30 p.m., at Chillicothe Public Library, 430 N. Bradley Ave., Chillicothe, IL 61523. For more information, please visit chillipld.org or call 309-274-2719.
