CHILLICOTHE — It took 77 minutes for the Grey Ghosts soccer team to get on the scoreboard and once they did it was a fight to the finish against St. Thomas More in an exhilarating 2-1 win that saw IVC capture it second-straight Illini Prairie Conference Championship and a 20-0-0 perfect season.

Entering the makeup game, the conference championship was on the line. IVC began play at 19-0-0, (6-0-0), while St. Thomas More was 13-5-4, (5-0-1).

Both teams peppered each other’s goalies with shots — 13 for the Ghosts and 15 for the Sabers in total — but at the break the score remained tied at nil.

At that critical 77-minute mark, Seth Crull finally found the back of the net after having an offsides call negate a goal minutes earlier. That goal gave him 39 for the regular season and a spot in the top-15 goal scorers in the state.

The Sabers responded quickly and tied the game 1-1 a minute later with an unassisted goal by George Comet.

Unwilling to win the conference via a tie, Crull found Conner Graham for the go-ahead goal with less than 2 minutes remaining. Graham’s winning goal gave him 15 for the regular season.

The Grey Ghosts ended the 2018 regular season with an immaculate record of 20-0-0, (7-0-0).
