PEORIA — The Fresh Market grocery store in the Westlake Shopping Center will close, the company announced Monday.

It's one of 15 stores in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Hampshire, Tennessee, Virginia and Wisconsin that will close.

An exact closing date was not announced, but liquidation sales are expected to begin Tuesday and store closures typically follow within two to four weeks, a company spokeswoman said Monday afternoon.

“Over the last eight months, our company has been executing a turnaround plan and we’ve seen great progress. However, for a variety of reasons unique to each retail location, that progress is not evenly distributed and, as a result, we have decided to close these long-term, underperforming stores. We will work to relocate as many impacted employees as possible to other stores within our footprint,” company CEO Larry Appel said in a news release.

Similar stores in Normal, and the Chicago suburbs of Glen Ellyn and Lincolnshire will also close. The Peoria location opened in August 2010, and temporarily closed after a fire in May 2017.

It creates another vacancy in Westlake, which recently saw Toys 'R' Us and Babies 'R' Us shuttered.
