PEORIA — A final, full tally of Peoria County election results confirms that a referendum calling for an appointed county auditor failed by 19 votes.

That means that Democrat Jessica Thomas and Republican Alan Parades will square off in November to serve the remaining two years of the term for an elected auditor.

The ballot question was too close to call on election night, with a 14-vote margin separating "no" and "yes" and a few hundred mail-in ballots still eligible to be received.

County election officials performed three additional tallies as those ballots were received in the mail.

The final tally was 11,033 in favor of moving the position from elected to County Board-appointed and 11,052 in favor of keeping it elective.
