MAPLETON — No one was injured Wednesday in an afternoon fire at Caterpillar's Mapleton foundry that began when a buildup of gases in a machine ignited.

Fire crews responded to the fire shortly after 2:40 p.m.

Company spokeswoman Lisa Miller said the buildup ignited and discharged through a smokestack, and a small group of employees were evacuated at the facility while the Timber-Hollis Fire Department responded to the scene.

Multiple other fire departments — including Bartonville and Logan-Trivoli — were called to respond and offer mutual aid at the scene. The Limestone Fire Department was standing by at the Timber-Hollis Fire Station.

Fire officials gave the all-clear at about 3:35 p.m.
