EAST PEORIA — Ihe intersection of Illinois Routes 116 and 26 was closed for about an hour Monday because of an accident with injuries.

The closure was announced about 3:30 p.m., and the reopening was announced about 4:20 p.m.

Traffic was backed up for a mile or so as police investigated the accident, which occurred just south of the Thornton’s gas station on Route 116.

Illinois State Police was in charge of the investigation but could not be reached for details about the accident. WEEK-TV reported that police on the scene said two people were on a motorcycle that crashed about 3:10 p.m. Both were transported to a hospital.
