SPRINGFIELD — Job numbers were up and unemployment numbers were down for Peoria last month, according to data released by the state Thursday.

Year-over-year June unemployment fell 0.7 percentage points to 5.5 percent.

Unemployment numbers decreased in each of the state's metropolitan areas, according to the information released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The overall rate for Illinois in June was 5 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of total jobs was also up in the region. Peoria saw a net increase of 1,400 jobs between June 2016 and June 2017.

In the region, unemployment stands at the lowest rate in Woodford County, where the June rate was 4.3 percent, down 0.8 percentage points from 2016. Stark County, which had a 5.5 percent rate in June, saw the biggest area drop from 2016, falling 1 percentage point.

Tazewell County stood at 5.4 percent, down 0.6 percentage points, while Peoria County's 5.9 percent was the highest in the area, if still down 0.7 percentage points.

Marshall County was at 5 percent unemployment, down 0.7 percentage points from the prior year.
