AMERICAN LEGION POST 9 is serving deep fried tenderloins, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans from 5-7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 for $8. Call 274-3255 for carryouts. Karaoke by Bedrock will  be 8 p.m.-midnight. All-you-can-eat breakfast is 8-11 a.m. every Sunday at the post home, 1043 N. Second St. Cost is $6. 

JOHN L. STOECKER MEMORIAL PANCAKE & SAUSAGE BREAKFAST is 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Jan. 25 at George Washington Masonic Lodge. Donations are $6 for adults, $5 for ages 7-12, and free for 6 and under.

HAM AND BEAN DINNER is from 4-7 p.m. Jan. 30 at First United Methodist Church, 1023 N. Sixth St. Hosted by Men’s Club. Ham and beans with cornbread, chicken rice soup, dessert and more. Advanced tickets are $5 each avail. at the church office for from members of the club. Tickets are $5.50 at the door.

FREE GED CLASSES meet Thursday afternoons at First United Methodist Church, 1023 N. Sixth St., beg. Jan. 22. Sponsored by Illinois Central College. Class size is limited, and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment began Jan. 5. For info, call ICC at 694-5240 or 690-6827. Online GED prep. option will be offered for eligible participants. Spanish GED prep. course will be avail. for Spanish-speaking individuals.

MEXICO MISSIONS TRIP BENEFIT is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 17 at Tequila’s Mexican Bar & Grill, 226 N. Fourth St. Funds help raise money to build a home in Mexico. Hosted by Chillicothe Christian Church. Lunch buffet of tacos, quesadillas, chimichangas, burritos, enchiladas, fruit, salad, etc. Tickets are $10 adults and $6 children. Does not include drink other than water. Call Rusty Richards at 231-5065 to purchase a ticket, or pay at door that day. Youth and adults from Chillicothe and surrounding area will travel to Chihuahua, Mexico, May 27-June 5 to build a home and visit an orphanage. 

TWO BIG GAME PARTIES ‘09 are Feb. 1. Grades 5-8 party is 5-9 p.m. at Pearce Community Center. Includes Super Bowl game on giant projector screen, swimming, hot tub, open court basketball, volleyball, inflatables, dodgeball tournament and large group games. Subway sandwiches, chili, chips, popcorn machine, snow cone machine and drinks provided. Bring change of shoes for basketball. No two-piece swimming suits allowed (wear shirt over it.). Grades 9-12 party is 5-9 p.m. at Shore Acres Clubhouse. Includes Super Bowl game on giant projector screen, inflatables, Wii tournaments, guitar praise, euchre tournament and Settlers of Catan tournament. Buffalo Wild Wings, pizza, nachos, chili and drinks provided. At half-time of both parties, there will be mandatory youth service, including skits, music, testimonies and speaker. Recommended donation is $5 per person. Both parties are lock-ins. Students checked out only by an adult.
