ART FOR YOUTH is 5-9 p.m. Oct. 23 at Shore Acres Park Clubhouse. Exhibits and auctions of all media of art works from a wide age range of artists. Silent bidding for many donated art works, as well as live auctioneer for special pieces. Works of Eric and Nikole Cooney on exhibit. Music by Mountain Men, Hannah Offutt, Ethan Hayward and Winston Dunbar. Heavy hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served. Presentation of Friend of Youth Award recipient. DINNER AT THE AMERICAN LEGION is fried tenderloins with French fries and coleslaw for $7 from 5-7:30 p.m. Oct. 24, followed by karaoke by “Bedrock” at the post home, 1043 N. Second St. Call 274-3255 for to-go orders. All-you-can-eat breakfast is $6 from 8-11 a.m. every Sunday, beg. Oct. 26 through March.

MERCHANT TRICK OR TREAT is 3-5 p.m. Oct. 24 at participating Chillicothe businesses.

HAUNTED HOUSE handmade by local teenagers at the Chillicothe Public Library will be open for children ages 6 and up from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 24. The house is designed to be a little spooky but not too scary. Admission is $1 and snacks will be served.

HALLOWEEN PARTY is 1-3 p.m. Oct. 26 at Illinois Valley Central High School commons for kids through third grade. There will be games, candy, crafts and much more. Free admission. Spon. by the IVC Student Council.

TRUNK AND TREAT is 4-5 p.m. Oct. 26 hosted by Rome Baptist Church, corner of Stevenson and Route 29 in Rome. All children are welcome to stop by in costume for this annual event. For more info, call 274-4812.

SPIDER HILL includes haunted house, “Massacre Mansion,” haunted walking trail through the woods, “Trail of Terror” and hayrack ride, “Haunted Express.” Also features hot air balloon, child-friendly play area in pavilion with face painters, games and spook house for tots. Event is 7-11 p.m. every Fri. and Sat. in October, plus Nov. 1, at Three Sisters Park.
pancake and sausage breakfast is 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Oct. 26 at St. Edward Catholic Church. All you can eat. Adults cost $6 and children $3.

AUTUMN CHILI AND SOUP SUPPER is 4-7 p.m. Oct. 27 at Shore Acres Clubhouse. Spon. by the Chillicothe Historical Society. The meal includes chili and vegetable beef soup, hot dog, beverage and dessert. Cost is $6.50/adults, $4/kids under 10. Carry outs will be avail.

DOWNTOWN/RIVERFRONT MEETING is at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 at City Hall council chambers. The mayor’s riverfront advisory committee meets with Tom Tincher and architect Tom McMorrow to discuss the overall appearance of the downtown.

VFW CHICKEN FRY is 4-7 p.m. Nov. 1 at VFW Post 4999, 1729 N. Santa Fe Ave. $8 per dinner. Carry outs avail. Call 274-4999.

COMMUNITY BINGO is first Tuesday each month, beg. at 1 p.m. Nov. 4 at Heritage Manor, 1028 Hillcrest Dr. Spon. by Heritage Manor of Chillicothe and OSF HomeCare Services. Door prizes, snacks, refreshments and socializing. For more info, call 274-2194.

TRIP TO ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL in Rock Island Nov. 8 leaves by carpool from the parking lot of the Chillicothe Historical Society at Fourth and Elm streets at 8 a.m. Located on Arsenal Island, the 900-acre property was home to a Confederate prison camp in the 1860s and has been an active manufacturer of military equipment and ordinance since the 1880s. The Arsenal Museum displays the history of small arms development. Additional attraction is John Hauberg Indian Museum located at Watchtower Lodge in Rock Island. It houses an important collection of Sauk and Fox artifacts (the last two Indian tribes to occupy the area), many of which were donated by Chief Blackhawk’s family. Donation admissions. ONE STOP SHOP is 5:30-8 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Chillicothe Public Library meeting room. Shopping night features almost 20 booths of jewelry, food, etc. A portion of the sales assists the  IVC Kiwanis Club. Free refreshments, babysitting and door prizes are also avail.

ST. EDWARD AUCTION FUNDRAISER is Nov. 8. Bake and craft sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Quilt and money raffles. Lunch is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Silent auction during the day and live auction and dinner dance in the evening.

233rd MARINE CORPS BIRTHDAY will be from 2-8 p.m. Nov. 9 at American Legion Post 9. All Marines and fellow service members and families are invited. Dress is informal. Anyone attending should bring a covered dish.

SENIOR LUNCHEON is 10:30 a.m. Nov. 20 at Illinois Valley Central High School. There will be trivia, music, games, food and fun. Call ahead of time for reservations at 274-5481.
