Chillicothe native Alice “Alex” Eilers will be making the trip of a lifetime early next year to Antarctica, and she is encouraging the public to join in her travels.

She spoke to residents Nov. 26 at the Chillicothe Public Library about her upcoming trip in early January.

She was selected to be part of the PolarTREC program, funded by the National Science Foundation.

One way to experience Antarctica with her is to submit a self-addressed postcard with the proper postage for Antarctica, which the 1985 Illinois Valley Central High School graduate will mail from McMurdo Station, Antarctica.

Residents of any age may participate, and the Chillicothe Public Library will be the collection point.

Those wanting to participate should drop off their postcards soon, as her mom, Julene Eilers of Chillicothe, will bring the postcards from Chillicothe with her when she leaves to visit her daughter for Christmas.

Alice currently resides in Memphis, Tenn., and works at the Pink Palace Museum.

See an upcoming issue of the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin for more about her trip.
