The 1985 Illinois Valley Central High School graduate left her home in Memphis, Tenn., to travel for her six-week excursion to the southernmost continent of Earth.

Businesses sponsor free movie Fridays

Chillicothe Optimist Club members keep enticing the public to watch a movie on the big screen, and it does not get any better than free.

Area businesses are teaming up with Town Theatre to offer a free, Friday night movie every week in 2012. Merchants sponsoring the night are not only from Chillicothe, but also surrounding areas such as Lacon and Henry.

Knuckles Pizza opened its doors on Dec. 20 in the former Chef John’s Wine Bar & Grill building, located at 1719 W. Woodside Drive.

Community rallies behind IVC senior

Josh Pilger was making plans for his future serving the United States after graduation from Illinois Valley Central High School this spring.

Those plans are now on hold as he focuses on getting well after being diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a non-Hodgkins cancer of the lymph nodes.

The week before Josh began a more than two-month stay in the hospital, the 17-year-old was accepted into the U.S. Air Force. He signed up for eight years and received deferred deployment. He was set to be an intelligence apprentice, who would gather information from satellite images.

IVC’s one-act plays tackle big issues

The Illinois Valley Central High School Theatre Department will perform two one-act plays which tackle two key issues of the day — eating disorders and dating relationships. The plays will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in the IVC High School auditorium. All tickets are $5, at the door.

Favorite Halloween Costume: E.J. Biesecker as Buzz Lightyear

Congratulations goes to E.J. Biesecker of Chillicothe for winning the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin’s Halloween Costume Contest.

Out of five contestants, the 4-year-old received 38 percent of the votes cast at www.ChillicotheTimesBulletin.com. Also competing in the contest were Jozie and Tegan Draper, Madden Sperry and Emma Stahl. In total, 252 votes were cast last week to determine the best Halloween costume contest winner.

Biesecker will receive a $25 gift card to Monical’s Pizza. Chillicothe Times-Bulletin readers should be on the lookout for more contests in future editions.

Madeline Hoskins stars as ‘Annie’ at Peoria Players

Everyone’s favorite little orphan is at it again in Peoria.

The popular musical, “Annie,” is beginning its run at the Peoria Players Theatre.

The production stars a few of Chillicothe’s own, including 12-year-old Chillicothe Elementary Center student Madeline Hoskins, who plays the lead role of Annie.
