All the dogs in the area may want to pull their owners in the direction of Rome Saturday as Walnut Dog Park officially will open.
A “bone-cutting” ceremony opens the festivities at 9 a.m. with Chillicothe Park District officials.
The park, located at 14401 N. River Beach Drive, offers residents an area to take their dogs off their leashes. The area is divided between small and large dogs.
The community’s enthusiasm for the project came through loud and clear as park director Kevin Yates said the district received more than 100 calls after the project was announced.
Various businesses will show off their wares or services for canines at the park opening.
Also on hand Saturday morning will be Shademaker/Beautification Board members who will offer Arbor Day activities. The board also donated nine trees to the park district, with six planted at Walnut Dog Park and three at Shore Acres Park.
The board will be recognized at 9:15 a.m.
