The Chillicothe Park District is gearing up for its busiest season.
Shore Acres Pool opens May 24 with a total of 50 people on staff.
Kevin Yates, pool manager and park director, said 44 employees last year left the pool a little shorthanded.
With the pool clean and filled Monday, residents may notice a few changes.
Twenty more chairs were added, and also another shade structure.
Both were suggestions from those using the pool last year.
Pool punch cards are available for $60 until May 24 for 20 punches. On May 24 the price is $70.
For more information, residents should call the office at 274-3409.
Hours are noon to 7 p.m. daily, weather permitting. The pool closes the second Saturday in August.
One week after the pool opens, the dogs will have reason to wag their tails as Walnut Dog Park opens.
The grand opening is 9 a.m. to noon May 31 with special activities and events.
The bone cutting ceremony will be at 9 a.m. along with the city’s Shademakers/Beautification Board making a presentation after the ceremony.
The board planted six trees at the park.
In other news, the park district board discussed possibly acquiring a 3-acre park built by the developer of Northbrook Subdivision, which is across from Greenview, at its monthly meeting Saturday.
The subdivision includes about 75 to 85 homes, Yates said, and contributes about $12,000 to the district’s coffers taxwise.
Along with the Chillicothe area, the park district’s boundaries also include Alta and Pinnacle Point.
The park already has a playground and gazebo.
Officials met with the neighborhood’s committee to discuss the possibility.
Yates said the board is looking for ways to serve those in that area.
If approved, the measure would extend the district’s maintenance men some, but the district already contracts out its mowing for its properties.
At the board’s meeting last month, the trustees approved resurfacing the tennis courts at Shore Acres, Yates said. Residents can expect to see work begin at the end of the summer.
